Hey all...
Here's a pic of abuelito that I really love...although i don't remember him that much if at all, i like this picture because it gives me a sense of maybe who he was. plus I really love the composition with the train in the background obviously in transit, the car also in transit, the tree in the background and the people in the middle. Very nice, great job, whoever took the pic.
I just retouched in photoshop. I included the original if you like that instead.
much love,
taishi

MArty se levanto temprano, y yo me quede dormida,of course.
no habia trafico.

Shylah's Presentation At Swift Last March 2008
You are cordially invited and urged to attend a brief health presentation this Friday…come…be inspired!
· · Shylah Duchicela Morales – 16 year-old Presenter, native of Ecuador
· · 3:00 – 3:30pm
· · CFMC Hospital Conference Room – Weimar
Shylah is a survivor of pediatric cancer:
· · attended school in Houston while receiving treatment.
· · Selected to participate in the Global Young Leaders Conference this summer in New York & Washington, D.C. based on academic merit!
Shylah will be sharing how the Global Young Leaders Conference (GYLC) fits with her personal objectives (see below) and how the conference will add to an ongoing process of effecting social change. The GYLC gives high-achieving students aged 16-18 a greater understanding of their roles as global ambassadors while analyzing concepts surrounding communications, diplomacy, law, human rights, peace, security, economics and the role of the United Nations. Students return home from GYLC with a greater understanding of their roles and responsibilities as citizens and future leaders in an international community. Each session of the Global Young Leaders Conference (GYLC) is designed to educate, inspire, and motivate students by giving them the opportunity to explore cultural differences firsthand, challenge diplomatic skills daily, build confidence and enhance decision-making skills in an exciting atmosphere that is challenging and fun. Shylah views this summer as an opportunity to make a difference in Ecuador.
Her Presentation:
“As adolescents, we make up half the population of the world. Our ideas, the way we handle crisis and our knowledge has the potential to help advance the world. Imagine the impact in the future if today adolescents from the around the world are given the opportunity to interact, to become culturally aware, and to discuss issues that are affecting all of us. We will be more capable of being a future leader in our complex and ever changing world, to be tolerant of different cultures, religions and finally be a good role model for later generations. The GYLC opportunity is the opportunity to make this happen, and to plant the seeds of a better world, to learn the diplomatic, social and economic lessons of the past, debate the policies of the present and prepare for a position of global leadership in the future. It is an honor to be invited to the conference because the invitations are extended to academic high achievers.
This conference is especially important to me, because I am part of Ecuador’s community, a Latin American developing country. The government is hugely in debt, consequently not affording to provide good education or health benefits. Adolescents are essential for social change and economic development. We can serve as a force to transform it and represent society's greatest hope for a better tomorrow. We see that with great power comes great responsibility. Tomorrow, the younger generation will have to cope with the legacy of today. As we come home, we have a much better understanding of our world and the ongoing issues and problems that seemed so far away, suddenly concern us.
In addition, the role of the United Nations will be discussed. I would love to learn more about what the UN specializes in and what are its current projects. I think their information can help all the people present, whether it be in their community or school. For example, Ecuador is addressing issues related to the Colombian border. As I attend this conference, it will give me insight in what we, as civilians, can do to help our country regulate peace.
Although, I’m only 16, I have realized that the choices we make today, what we learn through personal challenges, how to overcome them, our daily life, and observations, greatly influence who we are and what we hope to be. One of the biggest problems adolescents face is to feel lost, to have doubts and wonder about our role in life. Can we affect the world? Are our ideas valuable how do we get there? This conference is the perfect opportunity to learn more about current events and how to behave, act and think like a future leader. The lessons learned will influence into our mission as future voters, adults, and leaders. We will become more knowledgeable, prepared and apply our leadership skills to our country, our school and our society. We are all connected and to that point must do everything in our power to help others and improve our world which includes economically socially or culturally.”
Her Presentation:
“What are health resources?”
· · Do we all have access to all health resources?
· · Pediatric cancer in the United States: the health resources
· · Why me?
· · Health resources for pediatric cancer patients and their families in Ecuador
· · Albergue: a description and comparison to Ronald McDonald House
· · What does it mean to build critical leadership skills in a global context
· · How does it further my goal to find a way to help specifically the pediatric cancer patients in Ecuador

Agradecimiento

Agradecido…..Otra vez agradecido.

Moveon.org
She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.1
Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.2
She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000. 3
Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.4
She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.5
She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.6
How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.7 This is information the American people need to see. Please take a moment to forward this email to your friends and family. We also asked Alaska MoveOn members what the rest of us should know about their governor. The response was striking. Here's a sample:
She is really just a mayor from a small town outside Anchorage who has been a governor for only 1.5 years, and has ZERO national and international experience. I shudder to think that she could be the person taking that 3AM call on the White House hotline, and the one who could potentially be charged with leading the US in the volatile international scene that exists today. —Rose M., Fairbanks, AK
She is VERY, VERY conservative, and far from perfect. She's a hunter and fisherwoman, but votes against the environment again and again. She ran on ethics reform, but is currently under investigation for several charges involving hiring and firing of state officials. She has NO experience beyond Alaska. —Christine B., Denali Park, AK
As an Alaskan and a feminist, I am beyond words at this announcement. Palin is not a feminist, and she is not the reformer she claims to be. —Karen L., Anchorage, AK
Alaskans, collectively, are just as stunned as the rest of the nation. She is doing well running our State, but is totally inexperienced on the national level, and very much unequipped to run the nation, if it came to that. She is as far right as one can get, which has already been communicated on the news. In our office of thirty employees (dems, republicans, and nonpartisans), not one person feels she is ready for the V.P. position.—Sherry C., Anchorage, AK
She's vehemently anti-choice and doesn't care about protecting our natural resources, even though she has worked as a fisherman. McCain chose her to pick up the Hillary voters, but Palin is no Hillary. —Marina L., Juneau, AK
I think she's far too inexperienced to be in this position. I'm all for a woman in the White House, but not one who hasn't done anything to deserve it. There are far many other women who have worked their way up and have much more experience that would have been better choices. This is a patronizing decision on John McCain's part- and insulting to females everywhere that he would assume he'll get our vote by putting "A Woman" in that position.—Jennifer M., Anchorage, AKSo Governor Palin is a staunch anti-choice religious conservative. She's a global warming denier who shares John McCain's commitment to Big Oil. And she's dramatically inexperienced. In picking Sarah Palin, John McCain has made the religious right very happy. And he's made a very dangerous decision for our country. In the next few days, many Americans will be wondering what McCain's vice-presidential choice means. Please pass this information along to your friends and family. Thanks for all you do. –Ilyse, Noah, Justin, Karin and the rest of the teamSources: 1.

Heavenly Father,
You have told us not to be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayers and petition, with thanksgiving, present our request to You. I pray that You give Mercedes a spirit of power and of love and of a sound (calm and well-balanced) mind. I pray that You give her courage and confidence. I pray that You give Mercedes the knowledge, understanding and wisdom that she needs> to successful complete her coursework, written and oral comp exams, dissertation proposal defense, and dissertation defense. I pray that You give Mercedes favor (preferential treatment) with UT's faculty and staff, especially her course and dissertation committee members. I believe that You are directing Mercedes' steps and have not brought her this far to leave her. Ithank you for listening to and answering our prayers.
In Jesus'name I pray, amen.
I wish you much success.
Glynnis
